Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students need a "flying carpet" to explore new art techniques, artists, and art concepts. It will help my students focus and observe more in detail, sitting in close proximity of the lesson while I teach.

My students live in a high poverty community where 95% of them qualify for free lunch.

My students love art; they love expressing themselves, creating, and learning about different artists. My students' self-esteem improves every time they share with a smile what they have created. I had a third grade student that made a paper-mache rabbit with big eyes and long ears. I saw this young boy's attitude change as he completed his project from an insecure, doubtful little boy, to a confident and proud student! Studies has already proven that students who have more access to art classes have higher graduation rates (Kolodner, M. (2009, October 19). Bam team: gotta have art to succeed in hs: study. Daily News pp.8.

My Project

Instead of tattered foam mats, my students will have a comfortable and more hygienic place to sit and learn. They will be able to share and discuss ideas with each other on the carpet and express their amazement of new techniques together as a community of learners.

Over 300 students will benefit from having a carpet in the art studio.
