My Students

I am proud to teach 10th grade English at my high school alma mater. This has been a true full-circle moment for me as I give back to the community that has shaped the woman and educator that I have become.

The majority of my students come from low-income households but that does not diminish their capacity for greatness.

Our school is well-known for its athleticism, creativity, and academics. Although we are located in the heart of the inner city, we are truly an unstoppaBULL community, and each year our students consistently overcome the odds and rise above expectations.

My goal as an educator is to ensure that I am able to foster and develop the flame within each of them as they embark on this new journey and prepare for adulthood. My classroom is their gateway to deeper knowledge, greater understanding, and a more fulfilled life!

My Project

There is an old saying that says "Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” This is the motto that I impart to my students year after year. Although we are still in the midst of a pandemic, I am working to implement various methods of differentiated instruction within my classes so that no one is left behind.

My students will need Fire Tablets during class so that they can fully access the online resources we will use and to fully experience the benefits of the teacher-led small group.

As we rotate to different stations, small group instruction will allow me to reach everyone and help ensure their individual success as we work through the curriculum. These groups will also allow me to provide special instruction and give assistance, as needed, so that they may better understand content, express themselves, and ultimately succeed on the state-mandated test that is required for their graduation.
