Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach a second and third grade Self-Contained 12:1:1 class where my students learn differently than most and have a variety of needs that have to be met in order for them to be successful learners.

Due to the fact that there are a multitude of learning disabilities and special needs, it has become increasingly challenging to access resources and materials to meet the needs of each and every one of my students.

While my students are in second and third grade, the majority of them are reading at a Kindergarten reading level. Therefore, they are still working on early-reading concepts such as short/long vowels, digraphs, silent -e, etc. Recent studies have proven that decodable readers are the key to reading fluency. If my students have these books, they can have the foundation for becoming successful readers and meet their fullest potential!

The noise-cancelling headphones would be a resource that is new to myself and my classroom. I teach many students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and I have noticed a pattern of noise sensitivity. This is preventing them from focusing on their work, remaining calm in crowded environments such as gym class, assemblies, etc. These headphones would allow my students to function in these environments without feeling triggered, overwhelmed, and overstimulated.

Teachers Pay Teachers is a wonderful website that has a plethora of resources I can use for my students. I intend to use the gift card to purchase math centers, reading centers, writing resources, social emotional learning resources, as well as multi-cultural resources as we celebrate different heritages and cultures throughout the school year. One aspect of TPT that I love is that the resource creators include differentiated versions of their products to suite every kind of learner.
