Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

About My Students

I started the first Young Entrepreneur's Club at our Academy. Our public charter school is an eclectic mix of middle and high school students working hard to overcome obstacles and to achieve success regardless of their personal situations.

Almost 80% of our students qualify for free or reduced price meals.

We have a 0% drop-out rate and a 100% college acceptance rate. Our dedicated staff takes personal interest in helping our students succeed not only academically but socially and emotionally as well. It is our goal to produce well-balanced, productive young adults that have the tools they need to be responsible, contributing members of society.

My students will develop important research skills in order to develop and market their entrepreneurial ideas. By having a laptop they can use daily or check out over the weekend, my students will be able to have technology at their finger tips. They can work together with their teams and problem solve real life business and/or financial problems; they can research consumer reports; and, they can develop marketing strategies to list a few things they will be learning.

In Their Own Words

We asked Mrs. D about having a computer that we could check out on the weekends so we could look up things at our homes. It would just make it easier and we would have more time on the computer. We promised we would use it for only her club and not games.

We think that we could work on how to sell our stuff and make packaging for it. We could see how other people market their things and we could design our own. There is a lot about making a business so we need help to know how.

We will have to take care of the computer when we have it so that all of our teammates can use it. We also have to use it only for our businesses and nothing else. If we take care of it, we will show leadership to other clubs no one else has one.

When we have a laptop to use at our homes on the weekend, it will give us more time to think about how to sell our business and products. We have a computer lab and it is not available all the time. Most of us don't have a computer at home too.
