This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My first graders are awesome! They are explorers and they are constantly on the move. I constantly emphasize the importance of being safe, being kind, being respectful, and being responsible each day in our little classroom. I work with 18 amazing and hardworking students who are extremely eager to learn, participate, and support each other's learning throughout the day.
Our school is a Title I school that serves many military families that are connected to Fort Bragg, and 100% of our students receive free lunch.
We are a low-wealth district in Cumberland. My class is full of students with a variety of interests, experiences, needs, and strengths. With the resources, structure, and the need to apply their curiosity, they will continue to develop into strong learners and balanced individuals. I may not be able to control their home lives, but I really try to provide meaningful and memorable experiences for them every day.
My Project
Many teachers find themselves wanting to celebrate a culture's history and do not have the resources and books to do so. Black History Month should be celebrated all year long and by helping fund this project I will be able to do so. The books chosen for this project will offer my students the opportunity to see themselves as they learn about great African Americans inventors and other great leaders throughout history. The art supplies will be used by my students to create projects that will celebrate Black history month in February.
My students and I hope to use these resources to enhance our learning as we learn about and celebrate African Americans contributions to our great nation.
