My Students

My elementary students from Maine are creative, great listeners, and eager to learn about art! My art program provides curriculum that allows young children to connect to the elements and principles of art, various materials, artists through time, and cultures all over world. This includes reading stories, showing places on a globe, and talking about what students see, feel, and think about artwork.

Pre-K - 2nd grade students are deeply inspired by what they see and jump at opportunities to apply what they've learned.

They need a change of pace and scenery for their little bodies to do their very best work; they are motivated by large motor movement like passing out supplies to their classmates or going outside to create art, as well as interesting changes in the classroom like new posters or furniture. They are so excited to learn and be in my classroom. Their joy is contagious!

My Project

My big art room serves students Pre-K - 8th grade which is over 300 students. Because our chairs are so large, my younger students in Pre-K - 2nd grade have a hard time sitting at their seats for most of class. They can be more attentive and up close to my teaching examples, art processes, and inspirational literature if I have a space just for them at the front of the room. They can come right in and sit right down right at their special spot. Then, at work time, they can have a body break by having to get up to move to their work spaces at the tables.

These little artists can be more comfortable and more engaged learners with this new seating opportunity in the art room.

The rug will also provide a space for them after they've completed their assignment for the day: early finishers can participate in choice maker time with building and drawing. The carpet will provide cozy spots for them to do so instead of sitting on the tile floor!
