My Project

Compassion is an action, not just a feeling. Compassion involves thoughtfully relating with others, with ourselves, and being open to receiving care from others. However, there are times students feel left out, disconnected, or inferior to their peers. Practicing kindness is a demonstration of compassion leading to an atmosphere of safety and well-being.

Playing games with other people helps us to see the world from someone's else's point of view.

Games help increase student participation, foster social and emotional learning, and motivate students to take risks. This project focuses on the creation of a game corner where students can develop strong relationships with their peers. One thing I hear often is "No one will play with me." Our new game area will promote care, support, and friendliness and encourage openness and positive peer interactions. The selection of games provides a variety of choices involving different learning styles, interest levels, and content areas. When students see someone who is sad, frustrated, unmotivated, angry, or uncertain, they can invite them to play a game with them. The game corner will simplify social interactions, provide a structured, predictable environment, allow for role play, and promote reflective discussions. The rug, cushions, and foldable stools will give students comfortable and flexible seating. The floor sweeper will keep the floor clean with students taking turns being responsible for the area. To be successful, this project should promote a positive, compassionate environment for all. Measurement of success will be obtained through a series of before and after self-rate scores on an anxiety scale, and through close monitoring of behaviors and verbal interactions.
