My Project

Promoting physical activity in the classroom for students is so important, not only physical health, but mental health as well. Research has repeatedly shown that active bodies allow people of all ages to better access their brains and learn. Engaging in physical wellness and fitness instruction throughout the day can increase both physical, mental and emotional wellness. The requested walking pads will help aid in the fitness instruction for students by teaching them that fitness can come in small, everyday activities which makes it more accessible. I want my students to know that they can successfully integrate fitness into their lives. The walking pads will increase access to physical movement, which is so important to my students who have a hard time sitting still. Walking while learning and working is a low impact way to increase overall activity and wellness. This is also a great tool during the winter months, when we cannot get outside to get some physical activity to stimulate our learning.

Some students need movement in order to better focus.

While fidgets are enough for some students it is not enough for all students. The more we move the more our brains can learn and promote a healthy lifestyle. If we can model healthy living early on it can set the trajectory for a life of healthy choices.
