My Project

I teach students who have a mild intellectual disability at a high school in Newport News, Virginia. My students are my inspiration! They love hands-on, active, engaging projects, and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances to grow socially, emotionally, personally, and academically. Unfortunately, our school does not have a budget for my student needs. As a result, I turn to different donor sources to assist me with meeting my student's needs and interests.

Empathy and compassion are more important to our world today.

I want to provide a classroom library that promotes understanding, kindness, and action. By providing books that highlight diverse cultures, perspectives, and life experiences, our students will have the opportunity to explore different perspectives through stories, students will step into the shoes of characters from various backgrounds and circumstances, gaining insight into their joys, struggles, and dreams. As students engage with characters and their stories, they will begin to understand and share the feelings of others, fostering a deeper sense of empathy. Compassionate action starts with understanding, but it also requires practical steps toward making a difference. My students will read and reflect on books that tell stories and inspire action. To ensure my students are truly absorbing and applying these lessons in compassion, I will implement various methods to measure their progress; such as classroom discussions and service projects to benefit our classroom and overall school environment. By building this compassionate library, we are enriching our students' minds and hearts. Your support will help us create a generation of empathetic, compassionate children equipped to make a positive difference in the world. Thank you for helping us build a brighter, kinder future.
