My Project

I love taking my students outside to explore and learn from the environment. My students love exploring mud puddles, fallen trees, and everything the woods behind the school has to offer. To show students just how amazing the environment is in the state of Maine towards the end of the school year the entire fifth grade goes to Popham Beach so the students can see and study Maine Marine life in person. Popham Beach shows students a very different ecosystem than what we have in the woods behind the school.

While at Popham Beach students roam the beach in small groups with an adult, but the adults have no way to stay in touch as cellphones do not work at the beach.

Walkie Talkies would allow the adults to stay in touch on the beach so that if the worst happens, we can stay in touch with each other to make sure that we can get help where it is needed as fast as possible. Walkie Talkies would also allow the teachers to find students faster in case someone is getting picked up early and would allow the teachers to stay in touch with the bus drivers who have radio communication with the school district so if we needed to get back sooner we would have that information.

Walkie Talkies would make the students' beach experience safer.
