My Students

I currently teach 4th grade scholars in the Miami, Florida area in a difficult neighborhood of extreme poverty. I have enjoyed my year so much that I want to continue on with my scholars next year to 5th grade. My students are bright, intuitive, and have the drive to succeed no matter their circumstances. My students attend one of the lowest-achieving schools with little access to resources and experiences.

My students face unimaginable obstacles inside and outside the classroom.

A majority of my students are at least a grade level behind where they should be, but that doesn't affect their determination to succeed. My students have a growth mindset, and they continue to amaze me with their perseverance and persistence. They will succeed. They will achieve.

The sky is the limit at my elementary school!

My Project

Flocabulary is an online platform that brings a classroom to life. It makes learning accessible, engaging and relevant, for every lesson. Having this resource, I will be able to provide unique resources to students by pairing rap music (their favorite!) with reading (my favorite!). I have seen student memorize these catchy tunes and it really transforms the reading class experience. Student engagement goes up when music and rap are involved.

I am also requesting BIC Brite Liner Highlighters which will be used for a variety of classroom activities.

My students love to dance and sing, so why not incorporate this into their favorite reading class? I want to give my students as many resources to make them successful change makers. I feel that music is a tool that will help do this.
