Help Mrs. Braswell

I teach Environmental Science in Winston-Salem, NC. Our students are quite diverse and come from hard working families that live mostly in the rural part of the county. We have an ESL (English as a second language) program and close to 30% of our students receive free or reduced lunch programs. Last week I took my class to a local stream to collect "critters" to determine the water quality. I have several pairs of waders for a couple of students to actually get into the water (it gets quite cold this time of year without them) to collect with several nets. I didn't think they would be interested in getting in to the three foot depths of murky water until I saw 25 eager faces wanting to take a turn in the water instead of standing on the bank- just watching. I would love to get more of my students wading in the stream with a small donation of waders. After collecting the "critters", we identified each one so a category could be assigned to determine whether they were good or bad water quality indicators. Please help me allow more of my students to participate in this fantastic lab by donating five pairs of waders. "Wading" for your donation!
