Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We have almost 500 students enrolled at our campus. The majority of our students are English language learners and qualify for free lunch programs. We offer an after-school program that gives low socioeconomic students a variety of classes to choose from and develop certain skills. These range from cooking to computer coding. As the computer lab teacher, I see all students in class at least once a week.

They come eager to learn and excited to take on any challenge.

They look forward to the special classes they have available.

My Project

Virtual Reality is becoming a mainstay in our technological society. There are so many benefits for this technology that we can take advantage of in our classrooms. I want to use the VR headsets to allow my students to take virtual field trips.

Imagine reading about the first explorers coming off the Mayflower and then logging in and being at Plymouth Rock and seeing what is around from their point of view.

It would be a true immersive and unforgettable experience that will stay with the students for a long time cementing their learning.

I have found several apps that make this possible like Google Earth and Nearpod. Google Earth not only maps out the street view many of us use for navigation but their education department has lessons that will put students in the historical significant location with a lesson for them to follow. Nearpod is similar but the content is a bit more limited to teacher created material. Both allow the students to further their knowledge thorough the use of media like the vr headsets
