My students need a volleyball equipment carrier to increase safety regarding transportation of steel poles and increase security so the poles can be locked in a closet.

My Students

We want safety and fewer bruises. The volleyball players are required to setup and breakdown the 3 volleyball net systems (6 poles weighing 60lbs each) in our gym daily for practice. The poles are transported 20 to 50 yards daily and have injured players that are required to carry them this distance.

The students come from a diverse background with differences in socio-economic standing as well as experiences.

Many of the students are latch-key kids with parents working one or two jobs to give the children the opportunities they never had. Since they are latch-key kids they spend many hours in the gym playing volleyball and have fun while learning teamwork and learning to be a part of something bigger than just themselves. They aspire to play volleyball later in their lives and continue a sport that has afforded them enjoyment and the ability to be a part of a bigger family.

My Project

The volleyball equipment carrier allows for the athletes to transport the heavy volleyball equipment without injury. The carrier transports and holds 6 poles, 3 nets, 6 antennas, and 6 stand pads. The students work cooperatively to maintain the equipment while protecting themselves and the gymnasium floor from gouges due to not being able to carry the poles. They use teamwork and increase productivity time.

The players need to feel safe.

The volleyball poles are heavy and have fallen on players heads and arms in the past as well as crush their hands behind the poles when they are put away. The injuries due to the poles causes damage not only to their immediate person but also to their desire to participate in transporting equipment with their teammates since they are scared to carry the poles and other equipment. All students should feel safe while helping to maintain and secure the equipment.
