This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students wanted to start a volleyball team this year in my school. Most of the girls had never played before. With only one practice, we actually won our first game. The girls are so excited about this program and are learning so much from each other. The 8th graders are looking out for the younger girls in the halls now, and are learning what it means to be part of a team! This is the first time joining a sport for some of the girls.

My Project

My female students want to start a volleyball team. My school only has sports for the boys, so they convinced me to help start this team. We have 25 girls on the team, but we have no equipment to practice with. Also, most of the girls cannot buy their own knee pads. After one game, the confidence on their faces is overwhelming. They have learned so much already. It is also helping with getting them to go to class and participate more, since they know I’m checking on their progress and they don’t want to get kicked off the team. Please help in any way 😊
