Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a diverse community of learners ranging from non-English speakers to native English speakers. A large majority of my students come from the China-town borough of Philadelphia, and for some, this is their first time in the United States learning! Those who aren't from China-town, are from the surrounding South Philadelphia area, and we also have a couple of homeless shelters in our catchment, which students often live at as well. My students get to learn in an inclusive and welcoming environment with a great parent support group.

My Project

Our volleyball season is looking to have a lot of strong students involved. I am hoping to help foster these strengths with some new equipment that may assist them in becoming the best athletes possible. My goals as a coach are to help these young ladies find success in a sport that could carry over into a fun high school career as well as a potential college scholarship. Finding confidence in this sport can help them physically, mentally, emotionally, and academically. Students aged 6th-8th will be able to share in this great experience and this will hopefully open doors to other possibilities in their lives.
