My Students

I teach students with severe cognitive and behavioral delays in Queens, NY. As a teacher, I can see my students are dedicated, hardworking, and exceptionally respectful and need all the support that they can get. The majority of my high school students are severely below grade level due to multiple disabilities including Autism and varied Intellectual Disabilities. Additionally, they come from home lives that often can't meet their individual levels of need both financially and academically. They need help with materials and supplies that can provide them with opportunities to practice functional living skills in the classroom.

As we are applying vocational and functional curriculum to help meet the earliest needs of many of the students.

This curriculum calls for a TON of daily teaching materials and resources that I just cannot afford. From life skills materials to individual reinforcements, I am asking for your help! I know my students can be independent and take care of themselves in the future.

My Project

My project is all about vocational independence for my students. The items that I am requesting for my students will help them learn various vocational/functional skills that will help them in their adult lives.

It is time for my students to be exposed to various vocational skills and these items will help with that.

The shredder, portable file holder and file organizer will be used in the office section to teach students how to do the clerical office work and learn important life skills. The kinetic sand and sensory ball set is to help them get sensory breaks and stay motivated. The laundry items, clothes hanging rack, clothes folding board, laundry basket and laundry sorting station will be added to our laundry center to help students to be independent. The spray bottles is to learn how to clean. Students will use the condiment organizer to organize a tea station, magnetic pocket chart will be used to learn about different job assignments for the day, the cart will be used to learn about grocery shopping and learn how to run a snack cart and will learn different daily living skills.
