This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember how boring vocabulary instruction was for you in class? With the use of a projector, I can teach my kids vocabulary through short videos and make learning new words exciting.

My students attend a Title I school in DC.

More than 95% of my students are on free or reduced lunch. My students are English Language Learners. To accommodate my students' needs they are part of a dual language program in which they receive Spanish and English instruction everyday. It is imperative that we focus on vocabulary instruction. As a result, we are required to provide students with vocabulary instruction in both languages every day to meet their needs.

My Project

A LCD projector will allow me to teach vocabulary through the use of videos. Teaching vocabulary can be very boring. Most students dread word study block. However, I have found my students are eager to learn new words when they are presented to them through a video. Not only do the videos get my students excited for word study block but it also allows me to provide my students with background knowledge of the word. With a quick video I can teach my students a lot more about a word than they would learn by looking up the word in a dictionary.

There is no reason for vocabulary instruction to be static; instead, it can be alive and moving!

Please help increase my students' vocabulary by providing my classroom with a LCD projector. It will keep my students on the edge of their seats begging for more words.
