Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is energetic and full of potential. Many of my students move around a lot, and I would like to help them feel that our classroom is a safe environment. My class has a high level of ELL students, and many of them come from difficult situations. Many of my students do not have access to computers at home. I would love for them to develop the ability to comfortably use technology.

My students have positive attitudes, and they love learning.

They work hard and are kind to one another. Even though many of them struggle with understanding English, they have a desire to better their lives through education. They come to school with an excitement to learn that is inspiring. I have a high population of girls. I have the privilege of helping these girls become more proficient in technology.

My Project

In my classroom, I will use technology daily during our reading and math workshops. We will use websites designed for literacy and math, as well as research. This generation of students was born into an era of ubiquitous technology. My students do not have a lot of access to technology at home, and I will use technology daily in my classroom.

I want my students to be as comfortable as possible using technology.

They will need an advantage when they get older, and it is vital that they begin using technology in elementary school. I use Google Classroom because I know students will need to be comfortable with it when they go to Middle School and High School. I would also use laptops for various other activities, such as creating brochures, online demonstrations, and videos.

I would love to have access to some additional learning materials, in order to better help my students have the power to achieve. I have used Storyworks, which is a Scholastic Magazine, in the past, and my students love it! In Storyworks there are examples of all kinds of genres in every issue. There are fictional stories, nonfiction articles, reader's theater, and vocabulary lessons. Storyworks would be a welcome addition to my reading instruction.
