My Project
My schools have more and more students who need specific supports to help them learn. Many of these students have autism, and they excel when they know what is expected of them over the course of the day. I create social stories that features pictures of the students themselves doing things throughout the school day that will help them be successful. I also put together individualized visual schedules, visuals to support their understanding of routines and instructional concepts, and aids like first/then boards that show the student what they can earn after they complete a task.
I am not provided materials to create these visuals for my students or other tools that could help these students thrive, which is where this project comes in.
In addition to ink to create visuals, these students may also need timers to warn them of upcoming transitions, wiggle seats to engage their bodies and minds, activities that provide sensory input, and a clean office to retreat to when they need to lay down on the mat and pillows in my office to take a sensory break.
