Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

They live in the poorest congressional district in the country, and many will be the first in their family to apply to college. They want to learn more about how they can be the change they wish to see.

My students are artistic, emotionally intelligent, and curious.

Remote learning is disproportionately hurting them since they do not have any other access besides school to rigorous and exciting investigation of new material. Even though my school cannot afford to continue offering AP courses this year, many of my students are working together to prepare themselves for the exam. I am extraordinarily lucky to be teaching this class of incoming seniors.

My Project

With the move to remote learning, students do not get to see the tangible stages and moves of the revision process like they do in the classroom. While I am trying to recreate this process by narrating my moves on the computer screen, it does not compare to the effectiveness of writing on top of the writing while we are thinking and talking about the writing together.

Chalk on the chalkboard, markers on the white board, stylus on the smart board-- they let us mark up a draft together, adding, splicing, and annotating while we discuss what we are doing.

I want to use a tablet to write directly on students drafts during my remote lessons, during our virtual writing conferences and as part of my lesson videos.
