Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We were always taught to learn from our mistakes. I want my students to be able learn from mistakes - not only their own but from their classmates' mistakes as well! With a document camera, my students will be able to see and discuss each other's work.

Living in the poorest congressional district in the United States is obviously not the easiest thing.

While life outside of our school may not always be carefree and easy-going, my students still deserve every aspect of a classroom that most other American students have grown accustomed to. While my students aren't as fortunate as many other students in our state, they show tenacity and determination at school on a regular basis. Many of them have a chance to become first-generation college graduates (and even high-school graduates) in their families by working hard at our school. Despite certain hurdles in their education and personal growth, they have shown to be upstanding young adults and they deserve the best. Funding is limited this year and the school doesn't have the opportunity to provide as many resources as they have in the past, including things as simple as copy paper!

My Project

I have found that my students don't always understand the straight-forward way to come across an answer. I have creative students who have found other ways to solve challenging work, but we have no way to immediately share that work with their classmates. If we were to have a document camera in our classroom I could immediately share my students' work with the class. They can learn from each other mistakes, as well as teach each other through their creative innovations! In addition to sharing work, I can easily show small manipulatives to the whole class during lessons. For example, it would have been extremely helpful to have had a document camera during a recent probability lesson. I had tried to use a spinner in the lesson, but not all of the class could successfully see the spinner. With a document camera all of the students would have been able to successfully see the spinner during the lesson.

All of my students have special needs.

I believe that providing instruction through various means of representation help them to learn better than they would without it. Being able to use advanced technology not only helps them to see and practice various new activities, but it is extremely engaging for them. I believe that they will be so excited to use a document camera, which will hopefully help to retain their attention and focus for the future to come!
