I love teaching. I love to see the light bulb turn on when teaching my students. I will be teaching first grade next year. I have looked over the curriculum, and I want to engage my students with math visuals to support my students in math literacy.
I want to help students become fluent in math literacy.
In order to accomplish this, I need materials to support whole class and small group instruction. I will use ten frames, number bonds, and geometry practices during whole class instruction and math center time. Ten frames will be used to practice addition and subtraction facts. First grade core is no longer algorithms, but instead the reason why 10-2= 8 is 8. Ten frames will provide a visual during this instruction. Number bonds are used to show how numbers are related in addition and subtraction families. These dry erase boards will make it easy for students to practice during whole class and small group instruction. Tangram and pattern block templates help students to manipulate shapes into pictures. The rulers and ten frame cards are an effective way for students to practice first grade curriculum during math center time, and will allow me to rotate students during small group instruction.
In order to accomplish this goal of math literacy, I need materials to support whole class and small group instruction. These will definitely support the students, teacher, and first grade math curriculum to be taught effectively.
