Over the past year and a half, COVID has created a loss of learning, especially for our ELL population. English Language Learners, students whose first language is one other than English, require the ability to visualize the words and phrases they are learning. The ability to print color photos (with the requested printer and paper) of terminology new to students helps ensure their understanding.
While this technique also aids our regular education students, ELL learners are given the benefit of learning a new language more quickly with the help of pictures and illustrations.
While a student may not be able to write about a subject in English, as the old adage goes, "a picture is worth a thousand words." If they are able to learn and utilize pictures, their English vocabulary will grow quickly.
