This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Nearly 500 bright-eyed students pass through my classroom per week at our Title l school. Nearly all of our urban students receive free breakfast and lunch. While our students may come from diverse ends of an urban socioeconomic scale, the one thing they have in common is the right to the very best education possible.
My students are bright and fun, and they love expressing themselves in their art!
My students are encouraged every day by our amazing administration and faculty to be the best young people that they can be.
My Project
My students are truly voyagers this year, exploring uncharted territories for the first time, and with very limited resources available to them. I will be able to teach them drawing and so many associated skills that will help them in every aspect of learning.
Learning how to recognize lines and shapes in images and to recreate them on paper helps them to learn letter and figure recognition, develop manual dexterity in writing, and build confidence by learning that they can draw something they never would have believed they could accomplish.
The higher quality paper of these sketchbooks will allow students to successfully tackle everything from drawing to watercolor painting!
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
