My Project

The students in my class have severe multiple disabilities and are medically fragile. The students in the class are significantly low functioning. They have a limited range of motion, poor hand function, and motor control difficulties. All of them are non-verbal and sit in wheelchairs. Some of the students have low vision.

As their classroom teacher, providing multi-sensory learning approaches such as the use of visual, auditory, and tactile pathways are important to help the students to learn.

Tactile learning works best for students who have limited vision. They can learn through touching to make the most sense to them. Therefore, 'Feel and Touch' picture books, adapted books, and objects are helpful for the students to learn via their tactile or visual. Providing audio toys can also be a great tool for the students to learn with their ears. The lighting toys also would able to engage the students in their learning. Therefore, a multi-sensory approach is very important to enhance the students’ ability to learn and make sense of the world around them.
