Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As we all know, the coronavirus pandemic has severely had completely changed our way of teaching. The NYC Public School System had to completely shift in a week in order to serve our city’s future educators, lawyers, doctors, scientists and professionals. Almost all of my students were without personal devices at home and my school located in the South Bronx was able to provide each and everyone of our students a device to use in their homes. As distant learning took place I learned and adapted my craft in order to better serve my students from their own homes, who were all learning at their own pace and time. As a special education teacher, I am constantly providing my students with multiple representations of content and working to meet the individual needs of each and every one of my students. During distant learning this was sometimes a challenge as all of my students were not able to login at the same time. My students benefited from visuals and videos posted in our remote classroom, but this was not the same as their own teacher being in front of them.

My Project

As a special education teacher my students benefit from multiple forms of differentiation. By having this iPad I will able to solve problems in math digitally and provide my students with screen recordings of me solving for them to refer to when they are working on their own. This iPad will also support the number of students that I will be able to support at one time since I will now have not only my laptop at home but also this additional device. My students deserve to have as much live teaching and visuals - just like they would have in the classroom. Distant learning should put no limitations on their learning and success.
