This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Help us integrate technology into the classroom and bring literature to life!

Many of my students are from low-income neighborhoods in New York City.

In the face of adversity, they still come to school ready to learn and ready to be inspired. Our school is located inside of another larger school. Unfortunately, we are not allowed to share resources, so our school does not have as much access to technology like Smart Boards, computers, and projectors.

My Project

My students need a projector. With a projector, I will be able to bring literature to life. When I teach The Scarlet Letter I can show them images of the American landscape, artist renditions of the book and time period, video re-enactments of key scenes, or engage them with a virtual tour of Salem, Massachusetts. Many of our students haven't traveled beyond their borough and have little experience with life outside of New York. With the projector (and my laptop) I can bring the world a little bit closer to them.

As a school, we only have one working projector to share among a staff of over 20 teachers.

In the ten years that I have been teaching, I have only been able to use the projector once. It is always being used or being repaired. If I had my own projector for my own classroom use, it would always be available for my students to benefit from.
