Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students in my classroom use American Sign Language (ASL) to communicate. By donating these items to the students in this classroom, they will be able to turn in their work in their native language.
An example is if students will learn about science topics like cellular respiration, they will sign what they know about cellular respiration.
Then they will write out what they know using their own video. This helps them learn to write in English. After the English is written out, students will resign the video and add captions.
My goal with this project is to have students become more comfortable using both ASL and English. My second goal is to have students become more comfortable using visual technologies to tell stories. Students using this technology will be able to document their history easier and with their language.
The students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing in my classroom will benefit from this gift for many years. They will bring their experience to their families and the community around them. They will be able to advocate for themselves knowing how to use the technology available to them.
