Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a classroom that serves 10 students with a range of disabilities with both moderate and severe levels. Even though all my students have disabilities, they are first and foremost preschoolers. During our regular school sessions, my students would come to school excited to learn, explore, and play.

However, returning to in person learning after a year of being remotely will be quite a challenge for our students.

There are many new guidelines that these little ones will be required to learn and follow. Our students will have to adjust to a new classroom lay out.

My classroom is a "PAL" classroom which stands for Preschool for All Learners. It's a preschool classroom that is developmentally and individually appropriate for all preschool children no matter their disability. They are a group of fabulous 3 and 4-year-olds. Everyday I am amazed and astounded by these wonderful children.

My students are preparing and getting ready for Kindergarten by learning numbers, letters, shapes, and how to stay in a designated area or learning center.

Our classroom is part of a Title I school that serves low income families.

My Project

Please help my students with special needs during our transition to in-person learning by giving them access to colorful visual aids and social stories with the support of a printer. Our school's workroom printer keeps breaking down and the color quality is very poor. Our preschoolers with special needs require precise colors of visuals in order to facilitate lessons that require them to identify colors. To assist them, I need a printer to print materials that they use in class on a daily basis. These visual aids and social stories will immensely help my students with autism. The visual aids and social stories will help bring back the structure and routine that my students need, thus easing some of the anxiety that has been provoked by the pandemic. Visuals will also help my nonverbal students communicate during centers.
