This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My adorable little first graders need to see examples or pictures of many words that we come across when we are reading. These images will help build literacy and comprehension

We are an inner city, public school located in an economically and socially disadvantaged neighborhood.

Our school is in the second largest urban school district in the U.S. We are a Title I school and qualify for 100% free lunch program. Our school serves Pre-K through sixth grade. My students are excited about school and eager to learn. However, they have an extremely limited exposure to experiences outside of their neighborhood. For many of my students, English is not the primary language spoken at home. The transition from speaking Spanish at home to learning in English at school is challenging. This lack of exposure to language and vocabulary makes comprehension difficult.

My Project

My students need a Kindle Fire Tablet and Document Scanner to be able to see examples or pictures of vocabulary words that are not familiar to them. My goal is for my students to have access to images, photos, and other applications that will help to improve their vocabulary and comprehension. They need to have visual aids that will help them understand concepts, and give a name to objects in the world around them.

My students need technology that will promote improved literacy and vocabulary in all subject areas.

These tools will allow my students to view people, places, and things that exist all over the world as they gain success in all areas. Plus, these tools will last for years for many more students.
