A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
As a special education kindergarten teacher, one can imagine the type of energy that comes through the doors every morning as my students enter the classroom. As soon as my students walk in, one can see that they're excited for the unexpected events of the day, positive about the expectations that are encouraged, and most importantly understand that their best effort is what matters the most.
With a majority of my students targeted with academic concerns, it's my goal to provide as much support for them as I can to help get them from where they are now to where they need to be by the end of the academic year to minimize the gap between themselves and their peers.
With all of my students varying with their academic needs, individual academic goals, and supports to meet their specific learning intelligences; It is essential for me to utilize multiple strategies, resources, and tools to support their areas of need.
My Project
One area that my students struggle with is being able to identify their upper and lower case letters. In addition to identifying these letters, they also struggle with producing the letters’ primary sounds.
By having these tactical letters, my students will be able to seek alternative strategies to promote their memory to recite the letter name and its sound.
While my students are tracing a letter, I can recite the specific letter chant for them, have us recite it together, and then once on their own. And then eventually as the end goal, they will be able to identify and or produce the primary sound of each letter presented to them.
By giving my students additional resources to help them reach their academic achievement and individual goals. I will be supporting my students by closing the gap from where they are to where they need to be by the end of the academic school year.
