My Students

I am a special education teacher in a local city school system.

There are 16 students with special education services in grades K-5 at our school.

We are a Title I funded school in Virginia, and over half of the students in the school qualify to receive free or reduced price lunches. The school has 230 students of which 56% are white, 27% African American, 8 % are Asian. My students have varying disabilities including Autism, ADHD, and SLD.

My Project

Teaching students virtually as well as in a hybrid model has had many obstacles. Having varied reading materials that are available online as well as something that can be read in person (safely) has proven to be very challenging. By having Kindle readers for my students I can access my subscription to Kindle Unlimited however, additionally with this subscription the students will also have more access to titles and materials to help increase literacy. The benefit to the tablets is that they can be sanitized after each use where I am not able to do that with printed books.
