This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

At "Horizons of Khufu," the editors of our school's newspaper would get the unique opportunity to experience virtual reality for the first time. Using oculus glasses, students would experience life in Ancient Egypt, from sailing down the Nile River to learning about the burial rituals of a pharaoh.

In addition to celebrating our newspaper staff's year of dedication and consistent publishing, this field trip would be the basis of a special issue of our student paper that would showcase this experience through multiple angles.

Our tech team, for example, will report on what it was like using oculus, while our global editors will reflect on current crises in the Middle East, drawing connections between past and present. Our style team will investigate Ancient Egyptian food and fashion, and our Bronx local team would report on the difficulty of Title I schools securing funding for field trips (we are, ourselves, a Title I school).
