Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
I have the pleasure of working with outstanding children. They come to school prepared to learn and try their best every day. I teach in a Title I school with a high population of non-native English speakers. Our school is located in a low-income area with most students receiving free or reduced-price lunch.
"Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think" Albert Einstein.
I focus on the potential and growth of the children in my room. Most of my students have limited resources outside of school, so their only chance to experience enriching activities is at school.
My Project
This project was inspired by "Around the World in 180 Days!" I have requested 6 virtual reality headsets, and 6 unlocked phones to run the head sets. First grade students spend so much time deciphering how to pronounce words and figure out the meaning of vocabulary they often miss the excitement in science and social studies. Through the lens of Virtual Reality headsets they can experience the topics and add understanding to phonics and vocabulary.
During the school year my students become immersed in learning about different kinds of bridges and their purposes.
Each child chooses one bridge to write about and explain what makes it special, drawing it before creating it using various materials. The Virtual Reality headsets will help my students see the bridges, how they are used and the structural elements that will help them as they construct their own.
My students will also use these Virtual Reality headsets to access the various contents introduced in our curriculum as well as visualizing the four seasons. Students are expected to use their understanding of seasons to expand on their understanding of time to meet science standards. Imagine my students' excitement when they are transported to places that experience all four seasons. Places that experience snow during the winter and learn about the animals and vegetation in such areas. This enriching experience is sure to engage my students and stay with them forever. Your help in donating to this project is appreciated.
