Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are fifth grade special needs students in New York City. Many of my students come from low-income homes where they have the bare basics. All of my students have special needs and have found it challenging to acclimate to distance learning. When the schools were shut down, there was no real knowledge of when they would re-open. Now, we know that we won't be back for the rest of the year. Due to those circumstances, many of the teachers grabbed basic items but, not the extra supplies we would typically use in our day to day teaching.

Currently, the New York City school district is using Google Classroom as our virtual classroom setting, however, it is not enough to meet the special needs of my students.

We meet with our students via Google Meet, upload our assignments on Google classroom, and use whatever other free websites we need. At my home, I only have my laptop, and a white board to use. In order to meet my students needs, it would be incredibly helpful to gain access to other items that could help my students succeed.

My Project

My students deserve all of the same learning opportunities virtually, that they would have in class. The chart paper and chart paper markers will allow me to create anchor charts that I can take pictures of and post in my Google Classroom. The chart paper will, also, allow me to chart their thoughts on a writing assignment or a social emotional assignment in real time. The copy paper will allow me to continue to create documents for the students that I can, later, mail to them for their own reference.

My students enjoy learning through hands-on activities and fun games.

The computer software will allow me to review math topics with them in a fun way so that they don't realize they are learning while having fun. The magnetic math bundle will allow me to visually demonstrate all math concepts to my students in a bright, and virtual way.
