Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Due to the Covid crises many of my students will not be going to physical school this year. My students will be learning from a computer and I will have a classroom set up in my home. I have an eager group of young 9th grade learners from a variety of backgrounds that have also opted to stay home and learn remotely. My students come from all over New York City to attend our speciality fashion high school; however due to the commute and hazardous conditions many will experience our classes online. To provide the best modeling and education to our students from low-income households many were provided with the necessary computers and tablets through NYCDOE. I need an I pad and I Pencil, so I am able to write, communicate, and provide modeling to my students with disabilities within their homes. Writing on my slides and sharing things digitally with modeled notes help my students with disabilities in my ICT classes and all remote learners to be more successful.

My Project

An Ipad and I pencil are two materials that will help to enrich my students' at-home learning experience. These devices help me to write on my slides and interact digitally with students. Using the I pad and pencil I will be able to provide modeling of annotations and students will have more of an in-person experience. The benefit of the I pad over my normal computer is the ability to write directly on a document and on their writing. Using the pencil and I pad screen I am able to interact with the text we are reading just as I would with my smartboard at school. This will create an environment in the home that feels more like we are in the classroom. The goal of using this device is to have students model the things I write on the texts provided, to encourage students to do the same. In an English classroom connecting with and communicating with a text is an essential skill that will carry through their college years. Building this skill now using the Ipad and pen is essential to their progress in high school and beyond. A specific lesson in which we will use this device is when I am teaching annotating a text and analysis of a text. By using the iPad and Pen students will be able to see first hand how to make these annotations.
