Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a special education teacher in South LA. My students live in a low-income community and have a lack of resources in their communities and school. My students are TK-2nd grade and are such an exciting group of mixed interests, abilities, and goals. Some of my students are learning to read, write, and count, while some of their classmates are learning to imitate sounds or hold a pencil. Many of my students receive other services such as speech therapy, occupational therapy, and adapted P.E. I am starting this project to help give my students the materials needed in order to succeed and actively engage in class. The work we do in my classroom is about building relationships, following directions, and accessing general education content in different ways.

My Project

These materials will help support my students academically. Having a limit of resources has been a struggle. I have spent so much time creating and printing packets at home, many times running out of ink. Having tangible materials such as these workbooks will help tremendously since many of my students need visual materials to write on. My students will be able to simply focus on the academic material at hand. Teaching in small groups will be more engaging and easier since we will all have access to the same workbooks.
