My Students

I have the privilege of teaching a special education classroom in Richmond city. My students range from 2 to 5 years old and their courage and resilience amaze me every single day. Many of my students have severe physical, medical, and developmental needs and are dependent on others for many parts of their daily living. They are extraordinary individuals who have faced so many challenges in their short lives and still come to school with a smile on their faces and ready to learn!

My Project

Due to Covid-19, our learning has turned virtual until at least February 2021 but potentially until September 2021. This is hard for all students but especially young students with disabilities.

My preschool kiddos have a lot of sensory needs that we strive to meet in the classroom and help regulate their minds and bodies.

In particular, many of my students struggle with speech and communication, and this sensory integration talk tools kit is exactly what they need to make sure their oral motor needs are being met! We also have students with visual impairments that need a lot of tactile support as well as brightly illuminated and highly contrasted materials to be able to best utilize their vision. I use the cardstock, lamination pouches, and velcro to create adapted books and games individualized to their level and interests. I'd also love to be able to expose my students to watercolor paints and oil pastels. We have been using basic crayons all year and new art mediums could really help their little imaginations grow and expand! These amazing hands-on resources and manipulatives will allow my students to engage with educational materials while getting their sensory needs met!
