My Students

I teach in an urban, low-income district. Our school serves students in kindergarten through eighth grades and provides rigorous academics, fantastic teachers, and a safe learning environment. It is extremely hard to get funding for anything. We are a small school that is often overlooked. The students are curious and eager to learn. Sadly, there are not always enough funds for individual classroom projects.

Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

Today's students embrace the ever-changing world of technology, and my job as a teacher is to help them learn using technology for our 21st-century world.

My Project

My students have earned the prestigious titles of virtual learners. They have worked so hard at becoming independent and accountable. I would love to engage them by having a tool to teach and travel with them virtually. An iPad would provide me the ability to have on-the-go lessons and give them a sense of excitement as I take them on outdoor adventures. They would be able to hear, see, and enjoy the outdoors. Learning remotely should be a positive experience and memory that the iPad would be able to provide. I need to continue to keep my lessons dynamic and interested in this time of virtual learning.

The iPad will give me the portability that I need to give my students a more interesting experience.

I can take them around my house, my backyard, to the park, anywhere portable that does not confine me like my current heavy laptop. The more interesting my lessons are, the more my students will learn. This has been a very difficult adjustment for all of us- I am doing my part in trying to be creative and proactive. The keyboard will allow me to use the iPad in the few moments I will need to be static. I can also use the iPad as an additional camera to use for my Google Meet in conjunction with my computer camera for close up camera angles during demonstrations.
