This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Amos Gabia is a Professional Ghanaian Drummer/Singer/Dancer who will provide a 1 hour virtual concert for my students. The students have never experienced Ghanaian music and dance at our school. It is time for them to experience, learn and perform Ghanaian music as they will be performing it this year. Students are evaluated on their musical competency through weekly rehearsal, performance assessments, in-class discussions and written responses concerning a specific music tradition. Rehearsals culminate in an end-of-the-month, in-class performance, where students from other classes and staff can observe their performances. Students give three formal concerts (winter, spring, and graduation), which are open and free to the public and community performances (e.g. International Jazz Festival). Students, family members, staff and other community members are encouraged to attend the student musical performances.
