Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a group of 35 fifth and sixth grade students in East San Diego County. My students are resilient and face every challenge they meet head-on. They are positive role models who want to make changes in the world for the better. They are kind, generous, and share their hearts with each other and their community. We live by the motto "Knowledge is power". The more you know about the world, the more empowered you will be to change it!

This year, students have been learning from a distance since August.

It has been incredibly difficult, but we are all giving it our best and trying to create engaging, hands-on activities that elevate the level of fun! I assemble monthly packets with materials to send home with students, so they can still experience the same learning they would in the classroom.

My Project

Virtual Colonial Day will provide my students with an interactive experience to live a day as if they were alive during the colonial era!

Students will have colonial day take-home kits created and sent home, they will dress up in colonial-era clothing, and experience all the fun from their homes!

My students will be learning what life was like in the colonies by participating in a number of hands-on activities such as corn-husk doll making, quilting, butter churning, games, and much more! The corn husks, twine, glass jars, marbles, and feathers will be included in the kits, and the TpT gift card will allow me to purchase resources to create packets of learning materials for my students!

Nothing is better for students than allowing them to take part in a learning transformation, where they experience the past for themselves! Even though we currently are not able to take part in colonial day together at school, I want to ensure that my students will have a positive memory of Distance Learning to look back on!
