Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is made up of 15 full-day Pre-K students, with and without disabilities. It is a diverse group of children of different races and ethnicities. All of my students come from low-income families, from the city of Springfield. Preschool is a child's first school experience and my goal is to lay the foundation for a love for learning. At this time, we are currently learning in a remotely, logging into a daily Zoom session. Even though "school" is not the same, my students continue to show positivity and excitement for learning.

Now, more than ever, my little learners need the support in engaging in conversations and building peer friendships, in hopes that one day they will play together in the classroom.

They are always full of smiles entering each and every Zoom session. They work hard to follow along while we read stories, play virtual games, and learn new skills each week.

My Project

These colorful and creative materials will support virtual playdates during our daily remote learning sessions. Play is the most important way young students can learn. During these playdates children are encouraged to be creative, converse with one another, and work on building virtual friendships. Not all of the children have materials at home to share during these virtual playtimes.

Tag, you're it!

Providing these exciting learning materials to my students to work with will continue to enhance their creativity, conversational skills, and their ability to build friendships with their peers with minimal teacher support. Naturally, children learn from one another while they are playing and talking, This has been hard virtually, so these materials will keep them interested in what their peers are doing, as well as give them an opportunity to share their creations and build their oral language and conversational skills.
