My Project

The value of musical collaboration is incalculable, and I need a xylophone to help expand my ability to provide that for my students. Recently, I took an elementary mallet class that gave me incredible motivation and insight for collaborative music experiences in my classroom. I immersed myself in the possibilities of layering mallet instruments with the music I teach, and I'm on "fire"! I've been composing instrumentally collaborative music like crazy ever since. Unfortunately, xylophones and mallet instruments, in general, are incredibly expensive, so I'm hoping, that with your help, I can introduce these "mallet" inspired songs and their possibilities to my music students by adding a xylophone to the classroom.

Mallet instruments, and more particularly xylophones, provide a wonderful means of layering color and expression in music; each part plays a unique and valuable role in the whole composition and encourages immersive learning of musical concepts.

One of the multipart compositions I've created is titled "Fireflies", and it includes voice, xylophones, and flashlights. It was inspired by my first magical experience watching the flicker of tiny firefly lights lift and float across the summer grass from a lamp lilt porch in Pennsylvania. The unmistakable beauty of those animals organically choreographed into a symphony of light was mesmerizing. “Fireflies” was written to include individual light compositions which enhance the collaborative magic of this piece. It is synergy at its most stunning! Please help provide a soprano xylophone for my classroom to complete, not only this experience, but the many more which will result from my extensive work composing for and teaching about mallet instruments and the musical concepts they support.
