This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach Spanish Dual Language Kindergarten in Watts, California. My students live in a low income area where about 95% of them qualify for free lunch. Writing in Kindergarten is very important. The beginning stages of writing at this grade level is challenging because most Kindergartners believe they cannot write! I want to change that ideology by making writing different and fun!

By using colored gel pens on black paper, I believe my Kindergarten students will be motivated to write short sentences and illustrate them.

This is an unconventional way to write and the experience of using different writing utensils will excite them!
