This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Research shows that students do math problems most effectively in random 3-person groups working on vertical, non-permanent surfaces. Problem-based learning is the most effective way to get students thinking about math and mastering the underlying concepts instead of simply repeating specific algorithms. I want to have enough stations so my regular math classes, each with approximately 25 students, can work together in this manner.

Standing dry-erase boards allow small groups of students to work together to solve math problems while ensuring that their work can be easily shown to the whole class during lesson synthesis.

The students at my Title I school are bright, friendly, and enthusiastic when given the right encouragement, but the school and the district have limited ability to provide non-standard classroom materials. Providing these boards will allow me to effectively implement the problem-based curriculum my district has chosen to use.
