The current atmosphere of my school is trying to rebuild school pride and improve its participation in the community. Often you'll hear conversation between students or students and teachers about what we need to have in our school. We have built a fountain of ideas ranging from a "Fun Club" to different after-school activities the students want to have.
As part of an underfunded urban district, students often find themselves limited by the lack of support for their interests.
I have seen my students thrive if they are given the opportunities and belief that they can succeed.
My Project
I would like to build the Girls Basketball program by giving girls more drills and skills training with these new basketballs. Currently, we have one or two balls that are the right size out of an entire basketball cart, and most of the balls do not keep their inflation. Therefore only one or two students can work at a single moment. While my students have enthusiasm to play, they do not have any resources to build their ball-handling skills. We are looking to have a new bunch of ninth graders to join our team, and I'd like to hold Drills and Skills classes after school until our official season starts.
