My Students

Our school is a Title I, highly diverse population in a large suburb setting. We have a lot of families connected to the casino industry. Our school's minority student enrollment is 78%.

We currently don't have an art teacher, but that hasn't slowed our creativity down.

This is the second round of Van Gough Go Bags!

My goal is to continue to support ART in the classroom in an organized, quick, grab-n-go way.

My Project

Imagine a bag at your fingertips with everything you need to facilitate artwork! Class sets of supplies, with a video or a text to start the experience line the walls of our empty art room. The art room may be quiet, but the energy is electric as teachers pick which lesson will inspire the next Van Gogh. Ability to create art and appreciate the power of the hands is a gift for the entire school with grade levels blurred as we all create away from the tech and isolation of the past year.

I plan to create Van Gogh Go Bags which are the "Blue Apron" for art education.

These Van Gogh bags will be filled with quick, easy supplies, organized directions, and powerful interaction is the outcome of these lessons. How better to increase positive self-image, enhance conversation skills, and improve mental health than creating art during this COVID recovery. I plan to focus on the Beginning Art standard 1.0(B)1.5 Create artwork independently and collaboratively, displaying positive studio behavior including responsibility, organization, self-motivation, and appropriate interaction.

Using the arts as a language that transforms thoughts and passions into a unique form of communication is what Van Gogh Go Bags will do for our students. The best thing is these bags can be used for years as the lessons evolve into powerful expressions of self.
