My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district having enough materials and resources is always a challenge. I rely heavily on donations in order to enhance the learning experiences of my students. Our school is fully Title I, as approximately 59% of students come from low socioeconomic homes.

Despite the many challenges they face, students at my school are excited and motivated to learn.

Parents send their children to our school hoping for better futures. Thankfully, our students come to school with eager, open minds. They just need the resources and opportunity to excel.

My Project

Each year, in my classroom, I have 3-4 struggling readers who would greatly benefit from extra literacy practice. While they benefit from whole and small group instruction, they need a center to work independently on their reading skills.

The struggling readers in my classroom need an iPad that can be used in a center to help improve their fluency, comprehension, and listening/speaking skills.

An iPad will allow my students to listen to and see text read to them using many apps and services such as Epic and Ticket to Read to improve their reading skills. Using technology is highly engaging and allows students to work independently and monitor their own progress.
