My Students

In my classroom, you will find my fourth grade students bursting with eagerness to share insight about our reading; vying for a chance to model the solution to a math problem; wanting to change the world! And I get to teach these remarkable young people!

In today's society, the use of technology in the classroom is imperative to the success of each child.

I teach an incredible group of fourth grade students at a charter school in a high poverty area, where the high school graduation rate is less than 50%. My students are truly dedicated, curious, creative learners. On a daily basis I TRY to give them everything that they need. I feel that I carry both the responsibility and the honor of giving these children the most meaningful experience in school that they can get. Each and everyday, my students come into a warm, inviting classroom and work on literacy skills, math, social studies, and science. All of this, however, is done without a laptop or Microsoft Office software. These resources are necessary in order for us to utilize the existing classroom technology, such as a projector, that has already been donated to our classroom. Please help my students get this laptop and software to help make their learning environment even better!

My Project

My class is lucky enough to have a projector to help enhance the lessons I teach. Unfortunately, we don't have a laptop that can connect to the projector! With a class laptop I will be able to deliver instruction to my students in a more multi-modal way. I will be able to download audio books and podcasts for students whose comprehension is reinforced through listening; show students educational video clips and teacher-made presentations; work with students on collaborative writing activities by projecting the writing we are creating together as I type. Students will be able to see teacher-created worksheets projected onto a white board as we work through lessons together. I will even be able to download typing software to begin teaching my students the essential skill of typing! Ultimately, a new laptop and software will allow me to take advantage of existing technology, make learning more interesting, and keep students constantly engaged in meaningful ways.

Learning in today's world requires students to master an enormous range of technological skills.

Not only will they be required to use technology once they enter college and the workforce, but they can learn more effectively through using it now. The first step for my students to engage with technology is to get them a new laptop and Microsoft Office software. They need these resources to get a high quality education: one that keeps them engaged and learning at their maximum potential!
